Agriculture Diversification Plans

Adding business activities to traditional farming methods can capture and create new sources of income such as: new crops or livestock products, food processing, energy production, aggregate extraction, and eco and agri-tourism.

Some benefits of diversifying agriculture include but are not limited to: more stable or increased farm income, more efficient use of land; machinery, buildings or labour, and opportunities for future growth.

  • Project Purpose: Assist private inventor to develop a commercialization strategy for a new skid steer attachment used for changing commercial sprayer and industrial equipment tires.

  • Project Purpose: Complete a business case for establishment of cereal protein processing pilot plant. Applications for pilot plant extraction of barley proteins for nutraceuticals, textile applications, cosmetics for skin and hair care products, food packaging and meat casings.

    Project Outcome: Successful federal funding application for a $ 4.5 M bioprocessing pilot plant.

  • Project Purpose: Economic assessment for an elk farming operation to assist elk producers when considering investment in a new elk farm.

  • Project Purpose: Develop a 70,000 tonne per year oat groat and flaking plant including preliminary engineering.
